Winged Warrior II - Saturday, June 3rd 2006

The Winged Warrior Performance Challenge was initiated by Dr Kevin Butterfield in 2002 as a small toy donation charity for the patients at a local children's hospital.

Over the years this small charity has grown into an automotive performance shootout, car show, and spectator event for the greater benefit of these same children.

We will expand this year to include a number of events rarely available to automotive enthusiasts testing all aspects of automotive performance. Have you ever wanted to know what your car can truly pull on the skidpad or slalom without consulting the back of a magazine?

If so, this is the event for you.

Furthermore, we ask nothing more of participants and spectators than a donation they feel appropriate.

No participation fees, no spectator/parking fees, nothing but good fun for a great cause! This will be a great family event, with food, vendors, prizes, and a full day of racing to watch.

Of course, we can't have a "challenge" without some good competition, and the Winged Warrior Performance Challenge will provide just that.

Competitors will be divided into 60 cars for "Team USA", and 60 cars competing for "Team Import". When the smoke clears at the end of the day, we'll hand out a number of sponsored individual awards and trophies, and decide who the overall team winner is. If that's not enough, we will then take the fastest 10 cars and pit them against each other under the lights for the grand finale (event to be revealed race-day.)

The winner of that will be crowned "WINGED WARRIOR GRAND CHAMPION
2006."

If you actually go to evom.net, you go to the WW thread, and toward the end of the LONG thread. Look for Eclipse2Lancer. if you click in his signature (blue lettering) your run is in there under another video. looks cool!

Today, we will be opening a PHOTO GALLERY from last year, and for this year, we will also be putting up some more photos allover, including Buschurs Evo's in action. Thanks for the kind words. All the other sites are pming me like mad, wanting to look/signin/sign up etc.... I said NOT YET! We can just let them "stew" a day or so more! :lol:

No, it wont fill up quick, But to avoid "plugging up the camode" :wink: you should wait till Sunday, or later today. I will post when it is open HERE first! The computer guy is doing the Registration form TODAY, so it wont be ready for registering your car now. If you want to sign up, BUT WONT ENTER THE FORUMS YET, OR REGISTER YOUR CAR, GO AHEAD AND SIGN UP NOW.

Quick.silver, he is the captain for teamUSA, and he is the one tinkering with the registration page this weekend, He is probably BLOCKING all from entering till that part is done. When I activated you, MAYBE he has to do the same. I look at the list of "MEMBERS", and YOU are there, same screenname. Unless there is an issue with signing in, thats why I have to talk to him first.

It would have been done last night (the site), but since we decided to go to the "photo line-up" that is our delay now. I am guessing tonight tomorrow it should be ready. We also have to change the registration form, to add more questions, and the obvious "stock" boxes are missing. will keep you posted.

I guess there is a few shop cars from Buschur that will be coming in, and AMS is bringing the Time attack car, the big turbo car WONT help out the "team". I think this will be fun, as we will be racing AMS/Buschur in our own class, and see how we stack up with them. Who is quicker around the events. I can't wait.

Before sunday the registration will be open. the guy finishing it is Brody (med student) and he has a huge test this Friday, thats (honestly) why its not done yet!! Sunday is the day. or saturday if he speeds up.

BTW, IMO, fat chance anyone will beat Danny Popp overall. As a team, yes, individual, no way. I see him run all the time. I had him for an instructor once in one of the Pro Solo's (04'). He is the most aggressive driver I have ever witnessed, especially when he took me for a ride in my own car.

YES!!! THEY ARE PULLING OUT of the NDRA drags, in favor of THIS event. It was to be road car ONLY, and drag car at the NDRA drags, but Martin likes this venue BETTER, and wont be racing the drags (NDRA), they will be with US. I wont pick that beast to be on our team, as it will only excell in the drag. They will bring BOTH cars, and raffle off a chance at a drag down the runway in the DRAG BEAST!! That would be sweet. Buschur added another car also, not posted the picture yet, our side looks "evo heavy", so I am mixing up the line up a bit, ad adding the evos mid/pack, at the end.

Absolutely, he will not win all events. But I give him the best shot at accumulating the most individual points overall (if there is such a thing). He is sponsered by ATI and from what I'm hearing, he will be driving a 500-600+ whp, 2600 lb Z06. I'm assuming ATI set it up which includes a host of top Solo2 Championship winners.

You got to check out ATI's new car hauling rig. Very intimidating. :shock:

Maybe a side bet is in order? :wink:

Besides, it's all about the kids and an Import Team effort.

:lol: :lol: I was told by some (not on the site) that they would enter, but the Evos would "walk" over their cars. It is obvious a "team" effort event, not one on one. but you will get to have "interclass" rivaries. :wink:

The reason we "slowed" on putting cars up on our side, is because the USA side is getting cars to trickle in, and we are getting FLOODED with apps. I think there are over 100 evos alone registered to race! :shock: We cannot obvioulsy enter all of those, but TOTAL apps on IMPORT side is over 500, and they keep coming in. we will have a strong team for sure. I am only posting this info here, and just keep this "under your hats" :wink:

Since it stays here, :wink: It will be easy. I have over 500 entries, and TEAM USA has lots, but not the "hitters" he is looking for. He (Brody) is the one who puts them up, and sees the apps. he was gone for 1 1/2 weeks, so thats why there is no more cars added. There will be NO problem filling them up. he doesnt want to fill our side, because the USA entries might back down after they see all the HP we got!! Thats why I stopped putting evos up, I think they are getting intimidated! This stays here remember. 8)

I just took the Silver Bullet down to Buschur. I almost didn't have a car to run either. After I took it down I found out that the cams I was going to use are on backorder till late June. Buschur stepped up and found a set for me somewhere. Cams, ported manifold, eBay 02 housing, 20G9, 285/30/18 Advan Neovas all going on the car this week or next.

Going with the Revolver 262/264 setup. About the same duration as the HKS 280s, but the ramp-up is alot faster and they have ALOT higher lift. The exhaust lift is something like 1.5 MM higher than the HKS units.

Glad everything is working out with your car. I think you will be happier with the AMS stroker rather than the SBR 2.1. You still gonna run the TME turbo? That thing should make MAD torque, full boost at 2500 rpms???

And thanks for that explanation on the why the rosters haven't been updated for a while. Is the cutoff still 5/22? Basically after that date we can't mod/upgrade anything on the car, right? That means I've got a week to get stage 2 nailed down! :twisted:

FYI for any of you planning on going. Zack and I will be heading down the day before (Friday) and camping out that night, hopefully at the airport (waiting for Kevin's OK on this). There's some fun stuff going on in Indy the night before, such as indoor cart racing, plus it saves you from having to drive there and back in the same day.

Yeah - there is a $100 deposit and I think you send it to Kevin's accomplice. From wingedwarrior.net forums:

I think the date has been moved back since its after May 17th and the whole team hasn't even been selected :)

Insurance is found, but they won't insure the high-speed events :( So the 1/4, slalom, and 100-0 are out :( Final details are being worked out, but the event is still on.

Here is an UPDATE!!! I need your feedback, since you are my soundboard!!! I had to forgo my engine to make this a GO,( my money, not sponsor money) so I will be the "host" this time around. Thats OK though, its about the kids anyway. Give me some feed back guys!!

Ok, as all of you should know by now, we were dealt a "bad hand", and we have to scramble to do as many events as possible, to salvage a fun event for the kids. (In September, we will do ALL events at ONE location, like it should have been all along.)

Here is the NEW TECH info:

The tech will be done Friday starting at 3:00 PM, at MUNCIE DRAGWAY!!!(20 minutes away from the Anderson-Darlington airport) I got the track for us, and only us from 3-6PM to do some "heads-up" drags. Each car will get their 3 passes, and each car will get their 0-60 MPH times also!!! I really appreciate Roger at Muncie Dragway for helping us out on this with such short notice. They are also prepping the track for us. (Guess the burn-outs are OK now!)

The tech will be done there. If you want to stay and race (AFTER we get your times for this event), you can, or you can just stay and watch some great drag-racing action!!

If you are not able to make it at that time,(3-6) we can get you in for your times during Saturdays events at the strip, OR squeeze you thru friday evening. They are there LATE on Friday. You have different options to do, but we can get you thru.

Then Saturday, its business as usual on the tarmac at Anderson-Darlington airport. (Huge autox, Skidpad, and HUGE car show)

The tires you use at the strip, ARE THE SAME YOU USE SATURDAY!!!

For those who CANT make it those times,(3-6) we will be doing it ALL night long, until we get all through!! Will be lots of fun for sure. It is "fast and furious" night on that Friday!!

That's Okay, my friends and I ended up getting a room and drinking all night. I got two hours of sleep. My friends got zero!

I posted a comment earlier today, but I guess it didn't get saved. Here's the gist of what I said:

Although this event had its delays and such, it was really fun and a great way for me to start out the auto-x season. While I have lots of excuses why I didn't do well in the auto-x, I did great at the skidpad. Only a black sti beat my clockwise time in my heat and that was by .04 seconds with a human timer.

Thanks, Kevin, for a great time! I'm glad I missed the drag runs, cuz I don't like putting my t-case through that kind of abuse. I didn't even launch on one of my auto-x runs.

How did the other MiEvo boys do? Are the official results online yet? Post pics in the photo and video gallery if you got 'em!

Nice to meet you. You got some cool friends!! Never heard that many oldies sung by a group of crazy guys before!

Overall it was a great day. Definietly a good learning experience for putting on an event of this magnitude. I am sure alot was learned and when the big, full event is run in September or next year or whenever it is it will be even more of a success!

Looked like a blast. Wish I could've gone too, but a while back my Doctor scheduled me to have an important medical test done the same weekend as WWII, and then refused to reschedule it... :cry:

I saved all of those pics. I didn't get too many with my own camera, so this is nice. The last one on your list isn't me though, I was never parked by that grey 9 MR. There was another yellow 8 that didn't run, that must have been it. Did you find all of these from the WWII forums? I'll have to keep looking.
