Hey EVO owners, my name is Dave and I am a good friend of Joe's. The EVO was one of my main choices when I was buying my car a few months back, although this GTO came along and I couldn't pass it up. It is time to see how my heavy RWD boat will turn those cones over.

Dammit, I got scheduled to work that afternoon/evening :( I might still drive out there that morning to meet some of you guys and have a look around, but I'd have to bail by about 1pm, so I won't be there long enough to race.

MitsuJoe

If you ask they may let you race and then leave, typically if you setup it up that way they won't complain. It is worth trying so you could at least have some fun. Either way it would be great to have you there so be sure to add yourself to the list.

EDIT: I have sent an e-mail to the chair and asked for you. I will keep you posted.

i'm going to both, the bf wants to go this time also. im not going to race...i need to buy some stuff for the car to prepare it for autocrossing...oh but i had some training. Earlier this evening, i was driving on the main road right next to wmu's campus. it is undergoing some changes and there were cones all over the road. well, one could make like 10 different possible paths through this field of cones (the cones were spread out on the 4 lanes) there were no arrows or signs showing which way to go and there were no other cars in front of me to guide me...so i made my own path. it was so twisty turny so i guess i chose the wrong one, but everyone else behind me was following my lead. i look in my rearview mirrow and see cars swerving everywhere. it felt like an autocross course. very fun i and i took the people behind me on a detour. somehow fortunately, we all ended up on the right road after the cones. :D my boyfriend thought it was hilarious and complimented my driving skills. he was just glad i didnt hit anything.

The GTO backed out, he has family ties. I hope this event will be a blast. Loooks like we have a good amount of EVO's coming, so that should only make it more enjoyable.

Count me in to make an appearance at the race and picnic. As a general rule, I dont race more than 2 hrs away from my garage. Call it wussy if you want. Plus I still dont have too many miles on the piece yet.
Anyone coming from the Kalamazoo area?

Just for fair warning. Be prepared to see the baddest Evo around this weekend. My boss, Andy, just completed his car all but graphics. All I have to say is HOLY HELL!!! It looks meaner than any Evo I have ever seen in real life. Wait till you all see how HUGE of a Hoosier you can fit in those wheel wells. They are bigger than anything I have seen on any Evo period.

Please dont ask for pics or details yet. Just check it out for yourself at the event, take pics then. I don't want him to get weird about anything :)

ashley (cocoabro) told me that i should get better tires...much better, and right now i dont have any money to buy more tires and i want the ones on the car right now to last as long as possible. also my brakes are getting pretty worn down and uneven. i just want to feel more confident about my car before i try autocrossing.

Thanks!

I am glad he is getting that on the road. That will be sweet, I assume he will be there on Sunday, but probably just to race? Get him to put a single post on here. That would be sweet.

If it was three or four years ago I could've brought 10+ good cars with me. All of my friends have moved/grown up/wised up and are drivin stock.

Well, I don't think I will make it to the autoX though I would love to. I will be at Mid Ohio in the morning and headed back early afternoon. So couple of questions.

How long will the picnic go?

Where exactly is the picnic?

MitsuJoe

The picnic is at my house. It should go as long as everyone wants to hang out. You can call me at 9894006715 if you have more questions.
Thanks!

Anyone else bringing stuff? If you don't there is a Meijers like a mile away so you could always go get it.

I'm a no-go for observing, it's further away than I thought it was, and I'd spend more time driving than I would watching.

The drive isn't bad. I used to live in Ann Arbor, and for 2 years I made every SVR autox ;)

I'm Mark, the guy with the Contour that came to the picnic. Not an Evo owner, but I do know the 4G63 like the back of my hand, and an Evo's front suspension is very similar to a 1G's ;)

This was a real fun event, despite the rain which lasted a couple hours on and off. The course was wet for the first group, and became more and more dry for the second, leaving my last 1-2 runs almost completely dry. Personally, I didn't do very well as far as times and cones go, but it was still fun!

The caravan of seven Evos, a WRX, 240sx and an OZ driving to Joe's afterwards was an awesome sight to see. People were probly like "What the hell?"

I'm sure everyone will tell you that the cookout in Joe's driveway/garage was well worth the longer stay. It was great talking to everybody and checking out their rides!

I brought my hotchkis springs up there with me and it took only 1 1/2 hours to install them with some major help after the main party broke up. Thanks Joe for the install. Love the way these springs look and feel!
