I actually have had this mounted here since this summer. Thanks to my friend MikS for pioneering/perfecting it on his car. I liked his idea so much I called him over for an install day at Otters to help make mine.

Warning: yep - thats one dirty interior...sorry.

The gauge (Prosport 30/30 Green/White) is tucked in nicely into the ashtray. Realistically, I don't need to see the boost gauge every moment of every day. When I don't need it, I close the ashtray and its gone.

I had a steering column pod before. It blocked my gas gauge and MPH past 120. Neither really matter on the street, but on the track it was annoying. Couldn't see high speeds - important for some of the MI tracks. And more importantly, I could not see my gas gauge. Basically, I go through 1/4 a tank in 20 mins. Few track days I was well into the low light.

Why G/W? The radio is a greenish grey. Amber just didn't work there. During the day without my lights on its white. Once the headlights are turned on it turns green. And it is does zero - just the angle I was shooting at and the car is off.

Install is nice...

But...your not only taking your eyes off the road but then looking down almost 50 degrees inside the cockpit at full boost to read the gauge while on the track or street! :)

I'm all for hiding gauges.....but maybe a wideband or something that is only useful during tuning on a dyno?

Glance is quick to see I am making the psi I want. Other than that...I never look at it.

I had MikS do this same mod in my car and it's where I put my wideband gauge. Perfect place for it. I can close the ashtray lid for daily driving when I don't need to see it, and open it up when necessary.

Looks good, I plan on putting my fuel pressure gauge in that location!

Personally, I don't even like refocusing off the road to my gauge that is mounted on the dash when I'm flooring it. Also... I like having peak/hold/warning. In the rx7 world it was easy to blow an engine, and I had friends lose a wastegate line, overboost, and blow the engine. Course the good ol 4g63 isn't going to blow up right? right?????

kool. im glad people like this. i was the kid who asked mike if it would fit in there. it took us about 30 min to get it just right the first time. he told me that he did this for a few other people but all i new was that he did it for Otter.

Thanks SMike, I never did get around to posting about this. :) Been so busy.

I like it because it's keeping the interior from being cluttered too much. I dislike having gauges all over the place, so this worked out real well for me. As for taking my eyes off the road, the gauge actually lights up my glasses, so I don't really have to move my eyes from the road unless there is an issue. Only time I do that, is if I am doing a pull on the street for testing, but that's illegal and I havn't done that but maybe once since I got to NC. Cops down here are scary.

bringing this thread alive again, when i get an a/f gauge will it work in this location? cause that would be sweet. and if so how in the world do you make this contraption??

yes you can, um, its kinda hard to tell you how to do it...cutting, trimming, grinding will be needed. MikS might be able to do this via mail for you. PM him.
