ey guys i read a few things here and there and comes to find out its really pointless to buy a carbon fiber hood.....Well im going to say sorry first of all to all the guys here and anywhere else that has purchased a CF hood because im not meaning to flame, or to discriminate on your carbon fiber hood and your opinion on carbon fiber hoods. But correct me if im wrong though. Honestly from the looks of it the stock hood isnt really all that more HEAVIER than the CF ones....This would apply to those who wants to go for reduction of weight, but for those who are going for looks like me, i was thinking if i was to buy a $500+ CF hood just for the looks i might as well just paint my stock hood black. Which also in my thinking i would prolly get flamed on if i did so.
So guys im here today to ask if any of you guys have seen a hood painted black for looks and also for your opinion on how this would go of if i proceed it. But the main reason im wanting to know if it would be alright if i would just paint my hood black was because im in a need of a paint job on my hood from all the rocks and BS. So go on and tell me boys!
You are correct in thinking the vast majority of cf hoods are the same weight or within a pound or two of the stock hood. So people do go with cf for the look. Most of the "cheap under a grand" cf hoods are c/f laid on top of fiberglass...not exactly light.
I don't think I have seen an entire metal hood painted black on a evo. If you were to do it us a satin finish. I think that would look best. But I would keep it body color myself. But do what makes you happy:thumbup

It was common back in the muscle car era. They would paint the middle of the hood flat black to reduce glare.
If you're going to paint it, do it like this:

EDIT: JOE OR BOB!! Fix this forum so it'll let you do img tags on URLs that don't end in an image extension, like the one above. kthxbai.

I think just a black painted hood will look like you had to replace your red one and haven't had time to paint it red again. I wouldn't paint the whole thing red. Maybe go along the lines of the hood vent and then respray the rest red. It can't cost that much more to do. I am not a fan of c/f hoods either.

I say.. keep your RR hood stock and buy a CF hood for show. It seems like you want it, so go for it. ;) If i can find a great deal on a CF hood, I would get one just for looks and everyday driving. I had one on my old Impreza RS and I liked how it looked.
And keep it one color... NO 2-tone crap... LOL ...

yeah if i can find a deal on a CF hood i would...but its just a waste of money....and about the 2-tone im getting a CF lip or a Splitter for the car with some canards, so i just thought maybe a black or CF hood would match it alot...just my 2 cents but ey we'll see....its just i want to work on the body now after i get flashed and tooken cared of! thanks for the input tho guys!

yeah my hood looks like shit to i can not believe how many stone chips for just a few miles that i have on the car. I think i might do a CF hood just in ope that it will not chip so bad (the one on my honda does not chip that bad) so we will see. Has anyone got a bid to repaint the stock hood.

I really don't care what it looks like...I am inside the car anyways.

Black hoods are not fitting to the evo in my opinion. If you want the "cali style" a CF hood is going to give you the best look. However, I think the stock hood is the best.

Who here has a picture of the red evo with the black spray bomb hood from the kazoo meet last year?!? That would help this guy out.
