USDM Evos don't have AYC. Doesn't mean you still can't have some fun in the snow!

I was like a giddy school girl when we got some snow that stuck on the ground late yesterday/last night. Theres nothing like going out in the first good snow and making Donut Angels with your car.
I hear those are decent tires in the snow.

Great Day yesterday. LIke all I was giddy as could be waiting to get out of work. We have a semi-large parking lot next to us that is never full after work. My first time with All-Seasons and it hooked up nice (if I wanted it to :)) but mostly wasn't looking to get a whole lot of traction. Throw it left, throw it right, straighten it out, don't run into the tractor trailers. Much better than FWD

Nice, I get my winter tires put on Saturday. I am still on the Advans right now. Its not bad but kind of scary! Monday night was bad and Tuesday morning was real bad, 11" here in VanBuren county. Monday night I ditched it right by work, good thing because I just walked back to the warehouse and got a truck to pull it out with. It was kind of cool to pull by car out of the ditch with a Budweiser truck, only cause there was no damage=) . The other couple of storms werent too bad with Advans only there is no room for correction of the other stupid ass drivers in suv's!

I have the same snow tires...awesome!
I must say you have very big juevos for driving with the Advans in any snow. I would walk instead if it was me.

I was considering those tires after my conti extremes are worn. What's the price tag on those things and where's a good place to get them locally? How are they on dry (salty) pavement?

What are your guys experiences with your wheels being banged up by the tire places? Discount in Novi marked up my Gram 57Cs for my RX-7, and they actually had metal splinters coming off the spine. I pitched a bitch, and the guy gave me free mounting and balancing, but was a real dick about it. I got my tires rebalanced once, he took my cupon, and said "we're even." Won't be going there again. Hope it was worth it :)
When I got my snows mounted on Friday, they had a couple marks, but nothing bad. Just pisses me off, because if they scratched the car's paint, they'd definitely be paying.

From now on have Chad at Discount tire on Stadium Dr. change your tires. He has done a couple of different wheels now for me and takes really good care of them. He is the only one I would trust with expensive wheels.

man i SWORE I SAW THOSE ON OUR TOWN COPS CARS TODAY!!!....hahaha well to be honest i was up at one of my friends shop and the po-pos was there gettin new tires put on....and you know the po-pos look at me like "ha ha ha we can out run that evo now with our winter tires"....so i look at them and was like sweet tires ima get some for myself too!....LOL
but man they are expensive they are running like $190 per tire...so im having second thoughts because my toyo proxes 4 was cheaper than that by big time...
but ey how much u get yours for?...and where?
MitsuJoe

Tire Factory and the $190 is about right...maybe more.
At least get some Graspic DS2's or something. The Proxes4 will never be more than a light snow tire, when I say light I mean 2" or less. In northern country you need something better than that.

well yeah i know the proxes 4 was just for the summer, and thats why im looking for winter tires.....BUT again i think we arent going to have any snow or at least not much for the time being....sadly but yes there is COMPLETELY NO SNOW!!!....oh well ill just keep running with my toyos till i get something like the nokians..

What's funny, is we have yet to get any "real" snow here. This year has been hell for us.
Those treads look like they're pretty good though... Is it a good idea to get winter tires siped? I've been thinking about getting some steel rims, painting them, and putting winter tires on so I don't FUBAR my alloy's through the winter on our wonderful Michigan roads.

One mans bad winter is anothers great winter ;) (PS Im from out west)
Most deticated winter tires have siping already in the tread blocks. Here is an example:
http://static.kolesa.ru/uploads/2005_11/97_am_winter_tires_l.jpg
But yes, the more extra lines in the tread the more areas there are for the tires to grip and pull on icy surfaces.
What kind of car are we talking about for steel rims? The Evo brakes are too big for steelies - i.e. I never have heard of a 17in with the right offset being available to us. But you can either get cheap Discount Tire rims or pick up an extra set of stockers to be the winter rims.

I see, so steel rims are out of the question.
I suppose once I get down in it, I'll have to rethink my strategy on the rims. I really don't want to be driving it on Mi roads in the winter with the rubbers that are on it.

I have driven a winter on the stock Advans when I lived in Cleveland. Sucked, a lot. And that was just a 20 min drive to my office. Lots of moments when the tires just lost traction from being out of the rubbers adhesive range. I strongly recommend getting at least all-season tires for the winter months. Unless you want to find out how well you can controll an uncontrollable situation :wink1

Been in enough situations like that. My old 91 Suzuki Sidekick was a rollerscate on ice (what car isn't).
I suppose then, I should start looking for some 17"s that are rather cheap, but would clear the brembo's then. Any particular place you would suggest personally? I'm not looking for anything super-hip, or even quality. I just want some rims I can throw all-season/winter tires on for the winter season - therefor keeping my Advans on the stock rims for spring/sum/fall.

haha, we had a 90 Sidekick when I was younger!
Discount Tire has some cheap rims that are copies of the more expensive cool ones. They are nothing special, weight more than stock, but more importantly they are not expensive. Sometimes you can find a great deal on used Evo rims that may have some curb rash and scratches for a reasonable price.
I have two sets of Evo VIII rims, one set has a/s tires I use for rain/snow days (not like I drive my car in the winter anymore) or long trips and the other is going to be deticated for track/nice day tires (Falken RT615s).
