Hi All,

Just wanted to give you a heads up and see if anyone is interested in going to this event. It is in Columbiaville, MI, which is just a little south east of Saginaw.

FYI, a rally cross is like an autocross, but instead of being on blacktop or concrete, it is on dirt or gravel. This one is at a guy's farm, so it should just be in a dirt field. It is a cross between real rally racing and autocross racing.

You get 4 runs in the morning, then in the afternoon you run the track backwards and get 4 more runs. There should be everything there from pretty stock neons to purpose-built rally cars to my little EVO.

It says online registration is closed, but they have not yet met the maximum entries so I am sure someone would not have a problem signing up at the event. I am the only EVO registered. I hope someone else comes out to show these folks what our "rally" cars can do.

Let me know if anyone wants to meet up and cruize down together.

what kind of tire are you running in this? Snow, dirt, or street?

Running my Nokian Hakapellitta RSI snow tires. The Nokian and Blizzak snow tirs are pretty popular with the RallyCross crowd. They seem to have great bite and dirt/mud evacuation properties.

Wow, no takers. Maybe the EVO isn't a rally car  Maybe they are only good on the smooth paved surfaces. . . .

J/K guys, I know it was short notice. I guess I will have to fight alone to protect the Mitsubishi name from the onslaught of STIs WRXs and various other AWD contraptions.

I would think lowered cars would not do well in such an event, no?

I don't know about racing skillz . . . We will see how things go this summer against some stiffer competition.

Lowered cars are probably not the best mix with off-road racing. I ran one event last year with the Ohlins on (couple inches lower than stock) and between being too low and being too stiff it was pretty much not a fun time. Luckily I didn't break anything.

This time out was a different story. I ran the stock shocks and springs and my Nokian snow tires. I ended up getting 2nd out of 3 cars in AWD Modified class (they have stock, prepared, and modified). Overall I had the 3rd best times out of all the cars, about 15 total. The two that beat me were fully prepped rally cars running knobby rally tires, full roll cages, etc. I guess what I lacked in experience and car prep I made up for with raw HP.

In the afternoon session I was within 2 tenths of a second of the car that won my class, a rally prepped Talon.

The overall fastest time was a little Mazda AWD turbo rally car. That thing was pretty sick!

See above post. I would say it went very well. I didn't expect to do as well as I did considering I was running a winter/street setup rather than a rally setup. I must admit, though, the Nokian Hakapellitta RSI (sno/ice tire) are some pretty sweet dirt tires. The folks there even commented on how it was a very good choice if I could not run a full dirt knobby.

In the afternoon, once I got used to driving on dirt, I was only a couple tenths off the winner. Can't complain about that!
